Tiamzons urge support for peace talks

In their first ever public forum at the Fisher Mall in Quezon City last September 10, couple Benito and Wilma Tiamzon called on all patriotic Filipinos to grab the chance to advance genuine social reforms afforded by the Duterte government’s peace ongoing peace negotiations with the National Democratic Front of the Philippines.

Peasants demand justice for victims of Fort Magsaysay massacre

PEASANT groups Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) and Alyansang Magbubukid ng Gitnang Luzon (AMGL) and human rights organization Karapatan condemned the killing of four peasants inside the Fort Magsaysay Military Reservation (FMMR) in Barangay San Isidro, Laur, Nueva Ecija last September 3.

According to KMP, the farmers were taking part in a land cultivation activity inside the reservation Saturday morning when a helicopter landed and delivered rifles near their area.

CONTRIBUTED VIDEO: Fort Magsaysay massacre survivor tells story

FOUR farmers were killed when armed men in camouflaged uniforms and bonnets swooped down at farmers cultivating land inside the Fort Magsaysay Military Reservation (FMMR) in Bgy. San Isidro, Laur, Nueva Ecija midday of September 1, 2016.

Killed were Elejo Barbado, Emerencia dela Rosa, Violeta “Baby” Mercado and Gaudencio Bagalay.

In a condemnation rally in Quezon City last September 6, survivor Helen Madayag recounted the shooting .

FMMR is the biggest military base in the Philippines and among the five base locations offered to the United States military under the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA).

Perpetrators of the massacre remain at large.

NDFP consultants declare 1st round of talks successful

National Democratic Front of the Philippines consultants declare their first round of peace negotiations with the Government of the Republic of the Philippines successful.

In a press conference at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport upon their arrival last September 3, the consultants said the agreements reached at the talks push forward their struggle for genuine independence and just and lasting peace.

“We are happy to be part of this historic event,” Benito Tiamzon, in behalf of his group, said.

“We enjoin the Filipino people to join us in fighting for change both within and outside the ambit of the peace negotiations,” Tiamzon added. Read more

Petitioners vs Marcos’ hero burial face off with loyalists outside SC

Supporters of the petition against Ferdinand Marcos’ burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani held a rally outside the Supreme Court last August 31 while oral arguments were being heard by the Supreme Court.

The protesters said that the burial of Marcos at a cemetery for “heroes” would insult the memory of those who fought for democracy and allows the warping of history through the rehabilitation of the late dictator’s reputation.

A crowd of Marcos loyalists heckled the rally when they arrived outside the SC. Read more

BAYAN confers 1st Gawad Supremo to Sison and Duterte

Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) confers the first event Gawad Supremo to International League of Peoples’ Struggles chairperson Jose Maria Sison and President Rodrigo Duterte.

The award was given on the eve of National Heroes Day to the recipients for their contributions to the resolution of social injustices that national hero Andres Bonifacio fought against, Bayan said.

MARTIAL Law victim gathered at the University of the Philippines’ Balay Kalinaw last Monday to denounce plans to bury former President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

HUNDREDS of viewers packed the University of the Philippines film institute as the film “Tibak: The Story of Kabataang Makabayan” was launched Monday.

Last batch of NDFP consultants arrive in time for signing of joint statement

Six more NDFP consultants arrived in Oslo, Norway on the fourth day of the ongoing formal peace talks between the group and the Government of the Republic of the Philippines.

They are Porferio Tuna, Ernesto Lorenzo, Tirso “Ka Bart” Alcantara, Ruben Saluta, Pedro Codaste and Jaime Soledad, who were all released recently by the Duterte administration to enable their participation in the formal peace talks. Read more
