PH groups commemorate ‘Nakba’ in support of Palestine

By Nuel M. Bacarra

To commemorate the 76th year of Nakba, progressive forces from different organizations held a day of protest in support of Palestine at the Boy Scout Rotunda in Quezon City last Wednesday, May 15.

The activists decried that the Philippines is next only to India in terms of purchases of armaments from Israel amounting to billions. Last year alone, a $114 million contract between the Philippines and the Israeli government was forged for refurbishing two planes for intelligence gathering.

The groups said such contracts help fund Israel’s genocidal wars against the Palestinian people.

“Nakba” is the Palestinian word for “catastrophe” that describes the displacement of around 750,000 Palestinians when 530 communities were depopulated in 1948 after the creation of the Jewish state of Israel.

The protesters said Israel’s crimes against Palestinians continue as around 35,000 have been killed since October 7 last year in the latest and ongoing military operations in the Gaza strip.

The United Nations (UN) have reported that 7,797 of the Palestinian victims were children and 4,959 were women as of this month.

In the last 24 hours, 72 Palestinians have been killed, UN added.

International League of People’s Struggle (ILPS) secretary general Liza Maza said: “Marcos and (Indian Prime Minister Nerendra) Modi are not only puppets of the US but also support genocide by continuing their lucrative arms deals with the Zionist state.”

Kabataan Party List Rep. Raoul Manuel meanwhile said that there are similarities between the Filipino youth and the Palestinian people in terms of struggles.

“There are those who conspire to destroy lives and continue to repress the people who fight in the Philippines, in Palestine and anywhere in the world,” he said.

Manuel added: “We, the youth, together with the people will fulfill our role to liberate all countries that are occupied and free the people from all oppression and exploitation.”

ILPS said Wednesday’s activity was part its call for global protests against the genocide in Palestine and in solidarity with the Palestinians’ right to return to their homeland.

The global network also called for the strengthening of people’s movements to condemn and expose the US-Israel genocidal conspiracy.

ILPS said: “We must flood the streets and tirelessly call for the end of the genocide. On Nakba Day and the days after, we must demand justice for the Palestinian people’s right to retire to their homeland.” #

Trump commits multiple murder in line with US imperialist terrorism

By Jose Maria Sison, Chairperson Emeritus, International League of Peoples’ Struggle

By ordering the assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani and the Iranian and Iraqi officials accompanying him at the Baghdad airport, US President Trump has blatantly committed multiple murder as well as aggression against the sovereignty of Iraq and Iran in violation of international law as well as US law which prohibits such aggressive act without the prior declaration of war by authorization of the US Congress.

Trump himself has boastfully and arrogantly admitted the criminal act that he ordered the assassination of Soleimani and his Iranian and Iraqi companions in two cars. His crime of multiple murder is in line with the aggressive and terrorist character of US imperialism. As the No. 1 terrorist in world history and contemporary times, US imperialism has committed acts of aggression, destroying the lives and properties of millions of people, even without the formal declaration of war. Imperialist aggression is the worst kind of terrorism which the people suffer and abhor.

Those who support the terrorist act of Trump try to depict Soleimani as a terrorist. But in fact the latter is well known as a master strategist against terrorist groups, such as the Islamic State, Al Nusra and the Al Qaeda, which US imperialism has employed at one time or another. Soleimani and his Iranian and Iraqi companions are well known to have fought the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, starting from the time the US and Israel had just created and deployed the Islamic State as a weapon for invading Iraq, Iran and Syria.

In committing his criminal act, Trump is short-sightedly motivated by his selfish desire to overcome his current impeachment and to win the next presidential elections through warmongering and arousing the jingoistic sentiments that favor US imperialism. But the criminal act has serious consequences. The oppressed peoples and self-respecting countries in the Middle East are justly outraged, aroused and mobilized to fight against US imperialism. So are the people of the world, including the American people, who are against the aggressive and terrorist acts of US imperialism.

In accordance with its own original intent, US imperialism will commit further terrorist acts of aggression as in the Middle East. It will continue to lose trillions of dollars in military expenditures without being able to expand stable economic territory. The US public debt will increase at an accelerated rate even as the US military industrial complex profits. But in the Middle East, the combination of Iran, Iraq, Syria and other countries will further isolate the US and will avail of the support of China and Russia. Thanks to Trump’s hyperterrorism, the strategic decline and downfall of US imperialism is accelerating.#

World’s biggest anti-imperialist alliance holds assembly in Hong Kong

MANILA—The world’s biggest international anti-imperialist alliance is holding its sixth international assembly in Hong Kong vowing to win “a bright Socialist future for humanity” and uniting the peoples of the world “to fight and end imperialist war, racism, and Fascism.”

International League of People’s Struggles (ILPS) vice chairperson Len Cooper of Australia noted that, despite obstacles, more than 425 delegates from 45 countries delegates succeeded in attending the assembly.

In his opening speech, Cooper said that from its inception in 2001, the ILPS has grown to become the world’s biggest and most effective international alliance engaged in anti-imperialist and democratic struggles.

First assembly keynote speaker Nilufer Koc of the Kurdistan National Congress commemorated martyrs “who offered their lives to realize the common goal of building a truly democratic and Socialist future.”

Koc also recognized the powerful role of women and the grassroots in defeating imperialism.

“Once you bring the people together, they are the biggest power for the revolution,” Koc said.

Second keynote speaker Pedro Rosas of Movimiento Gayones for his part expressed gratitude for the support Venezuelans have garnered in their fight against US imperialist aggression.

Rosas said that Venezuela does not need foreign charity but the international solidarity of all proletarians in the world to defeat imperialism.

Outgoing  ILPS Chairperson Jose Maria Sison called on the delegates to celebrate the achievements of the ILPS.

“[The ILPS is]…a reliable force of the people of the world in their struggle for greater freedom, democracy, social justice, all-around development and international solidarity against imperialism and all reaction,” Sison said.

Sison cited the global capitalist crisis that not only accelerates the US strategic decline but likewise, advances the resistance of the broad masses of the people. He described the “unprecedented barbarism” being perpetrated against the people through ceaseless wars of aggression, racism and fascism.

Sison cited the need to further expand the influence of the ILPS and strengthen the struggle against imperialism by forming an international anti-imperialist united front together with other progressive anti-imperialist forces around the world.

The assembly then approved a resolution appointing Sison as ILPS Chairperson Emeritus.

The assembly concludes on Friday, June 28. # (Raymund B. Villanueva)

ITANONG MO KAY PROF: “Aquino is more brutal than Marcos in the case of political prisoners”

In this latest episode of Kodao’s podcast, International League of Peoples’ Struggles chairperson Prof. Jose Maria Sison said President Benigno Aquino is a “different kind of animal” for denying Eduardo Serrano his freedom even as it was already clear that charges against the political prisoner were false.

Sison also looks back at the Filipino people’s struggles and victories in 2015. He talks about the state of both local and global economy and how these affect the Filipino people; corruption and human rights violations under the Aquino government; the Papal visit and APEC conference; the successful campaign to stay the execution of Mary Jane Veloso; and others. He also challenges Filipinos to be vigilant in the coming national and local elections.

Listen as the country’s leading political scientist presents his views on many issues that affect the Filipino people.
