The village council of Barangay Oyao in Dupax Del Norte has formally declared its opposition to the proposed mining exploration of British-owned Woggle Corporation, denouncing the project as a threat to the community’s environment, livelihood, and future generations.
PTFoMS executive director Undersecretary Jose Torres said the MoA is an attempt to reverse the trend of harassment, threats, and violence against Filipino journalists.
The inmates are refusing since Sunday, August 24, to attend jail-initiated activities implemented under newly-assigned warden Jail Inspector Atty. Crisyrel Awe, Kapatid said.
CHR chairperson Richard Palpal-latoc said DOTr’s plan to publish photographs of traffic violators and release videos of errant motorists may lead to discrimination against individuals.
“We also call on the new PNP leadership to end the well-worn script of planting firearms and fabricating charges to jail activists and start living up to the human rights principles the institution claims to observe,” Kapatid said.
The Makabayan Coalition said the manner of Torres’ relief and his quick replacement is “unmistakable evidence of escalating internal conflicts and systemic breakdown within the Marcos administration.”
The recent arrest of a transport group member brings to 20 the number of unionists in jail and showing continuing impunity under the Ferdinand Marcos Jr. government, a labor center said.
The Legal Rights and Natural Resources Center (LRC)–Friends of the Earth Philippines said at least 73 documented cases of human rights violations affecting over 237,000 Indigenous individuals have been recorded this year. This is a staggering 428% increase since President Marcos Jr. took office, the center said.
“Instead of ensuring food security and livelihood, the government is waging war against the people through bombings, encampments and forced displacements.”
As the House of Representatives (HOR) starts its deliberations on next year’s budget, the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) said Marcos Jr. submitted a financial plan that is worth billions for the rich and crumbs for the poor.
