“[T]he Kaliwa Dam Project has a major environmental impact as it may cause pollution; climate change; depletion of non-renewable resources; loss of cropland, rangeland and forest cover; and extinction of animal or plant species,” the resolution further reads.
The victims slammed the Philippine government for its lack of assistance in the form of food supplies and medical care, as well delays in repatriation to the Philippines.
“Kapatid expresses grave concern over mounting reports of neglect, discrimination, and abuses against political prisoners Frenchie Mae Cumpio, Marielle Domequil, and other inmates at TCJFD under Warden Eva Naputo and Senior Jail Officer 1 Dalmacio Canayong,” the group said.
“Unlike prisons in some other countries, food is delivered to our PDLs inside their crowded cells, forcing them to eat on their beds and making their surroundings stink. Our jails smell really bad, itself a form of torture,” DILG undersecretary Serafin Barreto Jr. said.
Altermidya formally filed a letter complaint to the BJMP and the Commission on Human Rights today, saying Naputo “display[ed] abusive behavior towards persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) under her supervision.”
“If this is considered ‘unruly,’ then perhaps we need more ‘unruliness’ in the face of cruelty disguised as order,” Kapatid spokesperson Fides Lim said.
Most artists in the Philippines can’t live off their respective passions alone. Government support is scarce. Art programs are underfunded. Opportunities are limited. And culturally, art is still often seen as a hobby, not a profession.
“Instead of forcing PUP to meet arbitrary qualifications for national university status, Marcos Jr. should guarantee adequate funding and the right to education for every student, regardless of their school’s status or classification,” Kabataan Rep. Renee Co said.
While many college students enter the BPO industry, most don’t see it as a long-term career. For them, it’s a way to earn money while studying, rather than a path they plan to pursue after graduation.
KMP said the trip is for Marcos to personally “bend the knee” before Washington as a display of unwavering loyalty to his US masters.
