“Sir, I am offended by statements of politicians like you. Human rights groups, including Karapatan, spoke up to WELCOME Duterte’s arrest,” Karapatan secretary general Cristina Palabay rejoined.
“Mr. Roque should stop pretending to be a human rights lawyer and face the contempt order issued against him by the Congressional Quad Committee. His sudden appearance in The Hague while evading accountability at home only demonstrates his utter disregard for Philippine legal processes,” Rep. Brosas said.
Noting an orchestrated campaign of “disinformation, harassment, and gender-based online violence” on one of its officers, the National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers (NUPL) said the attacks were driven by Duterte’s network of trolls and die-hard supporters.
“As Duterte’s spokesperson, Roque played a central role in justifying and defending the extrajudicial killing spree under the so-called ‘war on drugs,’ which led to the murder of tens of thousands of Filipinos, including innocent civilians, Filipino Refugees in Europe (FREE) said.
“The ICC preliminary hearing demonstrated what genuine justice mechanisms look like. The proceedings were fair, direct, and focused on the objectives of the hearing without being derailed by diversionary tactics,” the Bayan Muna chairman said.
Supporters of detained former president Rodrigo Duterte are not all that there are in Europe as various Filipino organizations trooped to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to press for his conviction as a mass murderer.
“Duterte’s best defense lies within the court’s walls, not with politics in the Philippines or rallying outside the detention center. For all the damage done, allow us this one comfort and opportunity to confront him in an even playing field,” the Bayan Muna nominees said.
“We join the Filipino people in their push to have Duterte stand trial before the ICC (International Criminal Court) without delay,” CPP chief information officer Marco Valbuena said.
Former Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares welcomed the arrest, calling it a “significant step toward justice for the thousands of victims of extrajudicial killings and human rights violations under his administration.”
The Center for Trade Union and Human Rights (CTUHR) said the workers have legitimate grievances against Nexperia Philippines Inc. after refusing to adequately address labor issues, including unjust termination of jobs.
