The zionist Israeli regime again demonstrated its evil nature in killing the only five journalists remaining in Gaza last Sunday evening. Among those killed is Al Jazeera reporter Anas al-Sharif who was repeatedly described as the bravest journalist for refusing to leave Gaza and continuing to tell the world about the genocide of the Palestinian people by the occupying Israel entity. In his last report, al-Sharif said that Israel had launched intense and concentrated bombardment on the eastern and southern parts of Gaza City.

The Israeli military has admitted to targeting al-Sharif, accusing him of being a Hamas “cell leader.” But the zionists are lying in making such an allegation, knowing full well that he was a journalist. In spewing such a lie, the strike that killed al-Sharif and colleagues is proven as nothing but a deliberate massacre of truth-tellers. By killing truth tellers, the Israeli entity has shown it is enemy of truth. Enemies of truth are only evil.

We condemn the massacre of our brave colleagues who perished in the latest attack by the zionists. According to the US-based Committee for the Protection of Journalists, 186 reporters and media workers have been confirmed killed since the start of Israel’s military offensive in Gaza in October 2023. The zionist entity is today the worst killer of journalists on top of being the world’s worst mass murderer of infants and children, women, and the elderly. It is the world’s most evil establishment, engendered and aided by imperialists such as the US and British governments. Israel deserves all the loathing that all decent human beings heap upon it.

Even the fascist Ferdinand Marcos Jr. government here in the Philippines is hard put to justify its political and military alliance with Israel, voting in the last United Nations (UN) Security Council meeting in favor of a ceasefire in Gaza. In an interview in his recent state visit to India, Marcos even said that the humanitarian costs of the attacks in Gaza are “unacceptable.” We therefore urge President Marcos to truly examine the meaning of his pronouncements in light of the fact that his own government is in the habit of persecuting journalists and truth tellers. In the UN Human Rights Council session last month, the world has urged the Philippine government to end journalist Frenchie Mae Cumpio’s unjust imprisonment and solve the murders of journalists such as Gerry Ortega, Elena Tijamo and Percy Lapid. We add that the Marcos government should also drop the trumped-up charges against journalists Deo Montesclaros, Anne Krueger and others. These brave Filipino journalists, like al-Sharif, were only speaking truth to power for which the State respond with lies and persecution. How different are the persecution of Filipino journalists to what Benjamin Netanyahu is doing to journalists in Gaza, terror-tagging them prior to unjust arrest or, worse, assassination?

We urge all Filipinos to condemn the killing of journalists in Gaza and the genocide of Palestinians by the zionist entity. We as a people must further express our solidarity to the Palestinian people and demand that the Israeli state end its occupation of Palestine. #
