BBM is chief thief, Reds say

The nationwide protests tomorrow, Sunday, indict the Ferdinand Marcos Jr. government for its widespread corruption, the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) said.

Timed to mark the 53rd anniversary of the proclamation of martial law by Ferdinand Marcos Sr., tomorrow’s protests is a manifestation of the seething outrage of the broad masses of the Filipino people, the revolutionary party said.

“It will serve well as an occasion to indict Marcos Jr. for having benefited from the wealth amassed during his father’s dictatorship and for perpetuating the same oppressive and exploitative system,” the CPP added.

In Metro Manila, hundreds of thousands are expected to troop to Rizal Park Sunday morning and at the EDSA Shrine in the afternoon to protest against widespread corruption in government public works revealed in various investigations.

Similar protest actions are slated from Tuguegarao City in the north and as far south as Davao City.

CPP warned against efforts by Marcos Jr. to distance himself away from the controversy, saying the president’s so-called “independent commission” to investigate anomalous flood-control projects is just a smokescreen.

“The Filipino people know fully-well that nothing will come out of it…This investigation ordered by Marcos is only meant to mislead the people and draw attention away from the mastermind of corruption himself,” it said.

The group pointed out that Marcos Jr. allotted for himself more than P1 trillion since assuming power in 2022 and received “campaign donations” from contractors.

CPP also said Marcos Jr. is feigning sympathy with the Filipino people who are fed up with corruption when he said he approves of tomorrow’s rallies and may even join if he is not president.

NDFP salutes protesters

Meanwhile, the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) encouraged tomorrow’s protests, saying massive street marches and all forms of protest against deception, corruption, puppetry, and fascism are just.

NDFP added that the ongoing protest actions demand accountability and immediate, tangible reforms.

“The (NDFP) salutes and supports the protests of the open democratic people’s movement and calls upon the Filipino people to continue with the struggle and bring it to bigger and greater heights.

The Front said that should the protests fail to bring meaningful reforms, the Filipino people shall be left with no recourse for thorough systemic change but to join the national democratic revolution.

“ Thus, it is not only just but also necessary for the people to bear arms, to wage the revolutionary patriotic armed struggle for true democracy, liberation, prosperity and peace,” NDFP secretary general Elias Dipasupil said. # (Raymund B. Villanueva)
