The Communist Party of the Philippines CPP) condemned United States’ (US) bombing of Iran on Sunday as an “unprovoked terrorist attack,” calling on the Filipino people to strongly oppose the joint aggression with against the Iranian people.

The CPP said US President Donald Trump had no evidence that Iran is using three of its nuclear facilities to create nuclear weapons but attacked the Islamic state nonetheless.

The CPP said it strongly condemns the bombing that followed more than a week of relentless attacks by Israeli jet fighters, missiles and drones.

“We are united with all forces and peoples around the world who advocate for peace and respect the sovereignty of nations and international law,” the CPP said.

Six US B2 stealth bombers bombed nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan on June 22, in addition to Tomahawk cruise missiles from submarines as part of a coordinated offensive.

The bombing is a “blatant violation of Iran’s sovereignty and a serious breach of international law,” CPP chief information officer Marco Valbuena said.

He recalled that the same kind of so-called preemptive strikes were used against Iraq a US-led coalition said had “weapons of mass destruction” 20 years ago.

No such weapons were ever found even after Iraq was completely destroyed by US occupation.

“The strategic objective of the attack by Israel and the US on Iran is to impose US imperialist hegemony in the Middle East and control the vast oil resources of the region,” Valbuena said.

The CPP warned of the danger of a wider war in the region that will affect millions of civilians, including Filipino migrant workers.

Filipino authorities have announced that it has begun its evacuation of Filipinos who wish to flee the Middle East due to Israel-instigated aggression.

“All democratic forces in the world should support Iran, as well as the Palestinian people, in fighting the US-Israeli war machine currently ravaging the Middle East to subjugate countries to their power and force them surrender their freedom,” the CPP said.

Meanwhile, progressive groups under Bagong Alysang Makabayan (Bayan) held a condemnation rally in Quezon City hours after the US attack on Sunday.

In a statement, Bayan said the US bombing is a direct act of aggression against a sovereign nation and violates international law.

“The Trump regime is triggering a regional conflagration by bombing Iran and backing Israel’s earlier strikes on Iran. Now that the US has directly involved itself, the conflict will escalate and will have far-reaching repercussions on the world,” Bayan president Renato Reyes Jr. warned.

In a separate statement on Monday, Unyon ng Manggagawa sa Agricultura (UMA) said it echoes global condemnation of the US for bombing civilian nuclear energy facilities in Iran it said is a violation of Iranian sovereignty.

The group said it also condemns the Ferdinand Marcos Jr. government for allowing more US troops into the country, making the Philippines a bigger accessory to its imperialist aggression worldwide. # (Raymund B. Villanueva)
