Bonifacio Day anti-corruption rally to demand accountability from BBM, Sara

The Kilusang Bayan Kontra Kurakot (KBKK) announced its November 30 rally will demand accountability from all government officials involved in corruption, including President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte.

In a press conference in Quezon City on Thursday, the anti-corruption alliance demanded the investigation and prosecution of all officials involved in anomalous infrastructure projects

‘from the bottom all the way to the top.’

Lahat ng sangkot, dapat managot! This is our main call for Nov. 30. That’s the only way we can put an end to the systemic corruption plaguing the government,” said leaders of the movement.

KBKK said Marcos should not be exempt from accountability as hundreds of billions of questionable government spending in the last three years came him unprogrammed funds dubbed as “presidential pork barrel.”

“After all, it was he who formulated and approved the annual budget, including the release of funds for the anomalous projects in 2023, 2024 and 2025. Pres. Marcos could not have been ignorant of such huge and repeated anomalies,” KBKK explained.

“Any credible investigation should determine whether Marcos himself got a share from the billions of kickbacks that went around,” it added.

KBKK also said Vice President Sarah Duterte should face trial in the Senate for her misuse of P612.5 million in confidential and intelligence funds, including P254.9 million in ghost expenses.

Duterte’s impeachment must also proceed, the group said.

They said the Nov. 30 protest would be crucial in pressuring the Marcos government to seriously address the widespread corruption and not just dribble the issue.

“We do not want a repeat of the Napoles PDAF scam where only the small fry were punished and it was business as usual for those at the top,” they stressed.

The group said they expect a bigger turnout than last month’s Baha sa Luneta rally that mobilized 100,000 people.

“Nov. 30 being Bonifacio Day, we expect a big contingent from the working people who are outraged by the theft of their taxes and the youth,” KBKK said.

Since September, many schools throughout the country have conducted protest rallies while several organizations such as the Concerned Artists of the Philippines organized Black Friday protests.

KBKK said talks were still ongoing with various groups on the venue and conduct of the Nov. 30 protests in Metro Manila.

The groups are eyeing either the Rizal Park or other venues for the Bonifacio Day protest in Metro Manila. # (Raymund B. Villanueva)
