Poor welcome Pope with “Pagsamba ng mga Dukha”

Ecumenical church leaders organized a religious service that welcomed Pope Francis to the Philippines. The service was attended by members of various sectoral organizations which ended with a symbolic sharing of bread.

“The ecumenical community is happy to join the People’s Welcome to celebrate the visit of Pope Francis. The message of Pope Francis is clear: as followers of Christ-who was always close to the poor and the outcasts, we are to live in solidarity with the poor and oppressed. So to join with the poor and oppressed to welcome a renowed Church leader is a celebration of community,” said Bishop Reuel Marigza, General Secretary, United Church of Christ in the Philippines.
