A radio broadcaster was killed in La Castellana town, Negros Occidental on Friday afternoon, March 20.

Julito “Jaz” Diamante Calo, 49, a radio show host on 88.3 DNN News FM based in Himamaylan City was shot in the head by a gunman in a white sport utility vehicle.

Calo died on the spot, the La Castellana municipal police station reported.

The police added the victim was standing in front of his house beside the road when shot.

The suspect fled toward the La Castellana town proper.

The police also said it put up checkpoints and launched a pursuit operation. There have been no apprehensions since Saturday afternoon, however.

Calo was also a job order worker in the local government, newspaper reports said.

Inquirer.net also said had a recent altercation with a town councilor. The report did not name the councilor who allegedly punched the victim.

No possible motive for the killing had been shared.

The Presidential Task Force on Media Security has yet to comment on the killing.

Calo is the eighth media worker killed under the Ferdinand Marcos Jr. government and the first this year. # (Raymund B. Villanueva)
