BREAKING NEWS: More NDFP consultants walk free

National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) consultants Alan Jazmines, Tirso “Ka Bart” Alcantara, Renante Gamara and Ernesto Lorenzo were released on bail this afternoon at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.

Simultaneously, Alfredo Mapano, another NDFP consultant, was released on bail this afternoon from the Misamis Oriental provincial jail.

In an alert, human rights group Karapatan said that the five are among the first batch of NDFP consultants released to allow their participation in the GPH-NDFP formal peace talks in Oslo, Norway on Monday, August 22.

The five’s fellow NDFP consultants Concha Araneta Bocala, Kennedy Bangibang, Ruben Saluta, Jaime Soledad, Alex and Winona Birondo have also been released since Monday from different detention centers across the country.

Eleven more NDFP consultants are expected to be released until Friday, as promised by President Rodrigo Duterte in a meeting with NDFP representatives at Malacanang Monday.

The release of 22 NDFP consultants was among the agreements by Duterte’s envoys and the NDFP peace panel in their June 15 talks in Oslo for the resumption of formal peace negotiations between the two parties. (Raymund B. Villanueva / Photos by Karapatan)
