Human Rights Day 2017 in Manila Denounces Duterte for Killings

Commemorating International Human Rights Day, thousands of protesters under BAYAN (Bagong Alyansang Makabayan) took to the streets of Manila to denounce Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s killings and other human rights violations.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, embattled by an impeachment complaint filed in Congress by Duterte allies, had a statement read at the rally at the Bonifacio Shrine.

Jailed Senator Leila de Lima, in a separate statement read at the rally, also called for vigilance by the people.

Speakers at the mobilization included representatives from the media and the arts and progressive church people.

The protest rally and march culminated in the burning at Mendiola of a large portrait of Duterte painted as benign outside but a monster inside. #
