Tens of thousands of Filipinos trooped to the streets last June 10 to denounce and oppose the passage of House of Representatives Resolution 1109 passed in the dead of the night by allies of President Gloria Arroyo last June 3rd.

In the financial district of Makati, people from all walks of life marched with placards, streamers, flags and other visual forms of protest before converging at the corner of Ayala Avenue and Paseo de Roxas.

The few Representatives who opposed the resolution vowed before the large crowed that they will continue to oppose this latest move to amend the constitution. Several senators also showed their solidarity with the protests.

While the Philippine National Police tried to issue a very low estimate of the crowds' number, rally organizers led by the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan said that the June 10 Makati rally was the biggest against the Arroyo regime in several years.

The protest actions against efforts to change the constitution highlight the Filipino people's growing disgust against the Philippine government.
