(National Artist Award) citing Malacanang's intervention in the selection process.

Last July 21, Elizabeth Principe was released from detention in
Camp Crame after being held since November 28, 2007. Principe, 56 years
old, is a consultant of the National Democratic Front of the
Philippines in the peace process with the government.
The brazen takeover of the government by the top brass of the Honduran Armed Forces
and Honduras' traditional oligarchs has outraged the Honduran people
who have taken to the streets to reject the rightist coup. Unions,
students, women and other social sectors have launched a general
strike, setting up barricades and defying the curfew imposed by the
Micheletti government. The army, headed by US-trained General Romeo
Vasquez, has responded with increasing violence which has so far
resulted in at least two deaths, over a hundred injured and hundreds
more imprisoned.
Members of the Alliance of Health Workers (AHW) visited
whistle-blower Rodolfo "Jun" Lozada last May 7 at the Medical Center
Manila. Previously detained at the Manila City Jail, Lozada was
transferred to the hospital after suffering from dehydration and
